Would you recommend any particular chat system?

I think it would be nice if there was a chat system made with Json, javascript, html5 or something like that. I remember there being a chat client made with flash in gametabs, but that doesn't seem to be a thing anymore.
It's hard to convince people to join a external chatting client or receive friend requests in those clients, so I think it would help the community as a whole.

Other than making things similar to facebook, with friends list and all, I don't have much in mind. Having group chat would be nice too.
