Morrowind soundtrack is a copy/paste ?

@vuser86  - Feb. 16, 2011, 8:23 p.m.

I heard a song on the radio yesterday and i thought it was a cover of the morrowind soundtrack but in fact it's an original music from the soundtrack of the movie "All the pretty horses" released in 2000 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0149624/), 2 years before the release of Morrowind!

I've made this little youtube video so you can see by yourself

The full song http://www.goear.com/listen/2b80c57/all-the-pretty-horses-soundtrack-all-the-pretty-horses-soundtrack

What's your opinion? copy/paste? :)

Jeremy Soule and copypaste? Really? Quite similar, though.

You can't be serious lol. Music overlaps all the time, especially basslines. The feelings evoked in these two pieces are completely different! :D That being said, Jeremy Soule's more orchestral music does sometimes tend to be fairly conventional. His music for games such as Dawn of War however have a great deal of originality.

I think accusing anyone of plagarism in music is a bit pointless. Any type of composer is inspired by other musicians' writing and tend to combine styles from music they love the most to create a new one that is there own, but sounds simialar in ways to all the others they were inspired by. It's pretty common, or at least for me, to write something that you think is completely original but your subconsciously making it sounds simialar to another song you like, even if it's a song you haven't heard in over ten years. The two sound simialar, but I don't think Jeremy Soule copied or was even inspired by this song itself when he wrote the main theme for Morrowind, the two are too far apart. If you want to argue about Jeremy Soule copying / borrowing music, the main theme from Oblivion (Reign of the Septims) and the main theme to pirates of the caribbean would work a lot better than your example:

Pirates of the Caribbean theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EynZ65x6Tmo

Pretty unlikely. It's just a descending scale and they resolve differently at the end anyway. There are only so many ways to harmonize it and keep it tonal.

yes the words copy/paste arent the best in that case BUT there's a reason why i thought it could be a morrowind cover when i heard it when i didnt play that game for years...

Well, these two melodies seems really close to me :)
