What are you doing with your life?

@Parhelion  - Dec. 9, 2011, 5:55 p.m.

This was inspired by someone's post which stated that a lot of people here are in college or in the workforce. So I'm curious.

Here's my story:

I got fooled into getting a BS in biomedical engineering (December 2011), believing there would be at least a healthy amount of opportunities. I did an internship that didn't amount to a full time job, and here I am almost 12 months later still applying to the big names in industry, the government, and to every startup company I can find.

I'm thinking of either preparing for med school, teaching English in South Korea, or selling my soul to the USPTO. In fact, I actually had an interview with the PTO today, and based on the interviewer's remarks, I just might end up with an entry level offer. The thing is, my friends have warned me that if I accept the position, I'll likely never work as an actual engineer again. The thought scares me, but at this point I think I'm willing to take anything I can get.

Also, there was an interesting article in the New York Times that I think many of you might appreciate:

I kinda stopped playing guitar as I felt I hit the milestone I set myself to do when I started a guitar youtube channel, which was thousands of video views and suscribers, so after I hit 1000 suscribers and over 500,000 video views I decided I need a break and a shift of activities. closed down my channel and started to focus on my CS major, currently i've taken a huge liking to video game coding. I still have a year and a half left in college so i'm taking it ez. Sorta. also took a break off gametabs and the IRC channel, but we're all pretty much back.

To keep it short and unneeded details set aside:

Haven't gone to a single class for more than a month and I haven't socialized with a single person (saying 'thanks and bye' at the supermarket is the most conversation I get twice per week) during this period. Already decided to re-do my first year as I skipped the start of this semester's finals this week and haven't done any written projects. Music student, had thought such a development wouldn't happen because I like Music.

What I noticed was this started at the same time as I had finally received a great Kawai electric piano. It seems I only cared to go to uni for the piano practice rooms, but since I have my own now I don't have the drive to go back.

I have been slightly relaxing with amount of pieces learned on piano lately since I've had finished my first Chopin etude but I should have already gotten back on track. My sleeping pattern is chaotic/random, still haven't gotten back to guitaring.

Positive point is I've started to read books. But eh, stuff like Nietzsche's Genealogy of Morality isn't what helps you want to jump back into life.

That's the general idea.

I'm becoming hikki.

There better be people who have good things to say because nada of that so far.

SJ temp dropping guitar counts as depressing.

I fully expect all the gloomiest thoughts in this community to be herded into this one thread.

About to finish my career as an electric engineer and wondering if i should get a master(I think that's what you call it) in protection or potential systems. Already got my car and I'll get my own house in march of the next year(Now i won't have money for new strings again D:).

I got a new guitar and a podHD which i barely use because of school :< But I've also thought about studying something with music after I get my job as an engineer.

Can't complain about anything in my life except for the serious lack of Laon ;A;

still pursuing a writing career... not going good, but who knows?

waiting on a call from an employer, start work, bank money, ship out to stephenville for the MIP (music industry and performance) course. then probably open my own music store.

but, fill up one hand with shit and the other with wishes... see which one fills up first.

How to begin? o.0 Well I lost my job recently. So, I've been homeless for about a month. I'll spare you some other tedious details, but that's about it for me. I did think that was inspirational though Auriplane. ^_^ I'll just have to write down what I have.

currently still in highschool, everythings going alright, basically just waiting for school to end, enjoying whatever time I have left with my friends before we all go our seperate ways, which sucks. applying to art colleges, going to major in game art, I'd be learning 3d rendering and 2d tradional techniques.

Ultimately I want to end up working for sony or some other producer, dunno. considering not going to college so I don't have to pay the 30k per year, and teaching myself at home, but I don't think I want to miss out on the social experience of college.

I don't like the idea of splitting up with all my friends and starting a brand new life. I kind of liked being a kid and playing video games all day.

Yeah you guys should all be inspiring me and making my life easier and making me more motivated. Cause that's your job. As opposed to just saying what's going on in your life, which, oh wait, was the purpose of the thread.

Ahahaha okay.

Currently living in Tucson, AZ. Been looking for a job for about two months now, unsuccessful so far. Nobody seems to be even hiring these days.

I still make an adamant effort to practice guitar and stuff. Otherwise it's been a constant cycle of applying during the day and chilling with roommates and bros during the night.

I'm poor and all, but at least I have that.

We don't have enough money to turn gas on, so cold showers during winter are quite overwhelming. The electricity also remains mysteriously on despite no word from them for the last two months. We'll see though.

I currently can't afford to eat really, so I'm likely to stop by my parents place out of town for my birthday on sunday and eat all their food for a day or two.

We'll see though.
