Active VS Passive Pickups.

@xSpearPointx  - Feb. 24, 2012, 3:32 a.m.

Hail friends,

I'm looking for some of your impressions of Active Pickups VS Passive Pickups,as I've recently decided that I'm going to save up for this beast ,I've never played with active pickups before though,and the nearest guitar center is in the next town over. I live in a little country town,friggin Walmart by itself is a 30 minute drive away.

What's the biggest difference between Actives and Passives?

it's a nice guitar but I never heard of the brand. 7 string actives are a pain. if anything I would go for either EMG or Seymor Duncan.

EMG tends to have more edge around the 81-85 combo while duncans always have more of a smooth sound. Active Pickups tend to have a much better tone then passive when it comes to comparison to stock. & string guitars need them, that low string always sounds muddy otherwise.

I dont like the Bridge set up on that guitar though, or the switch. For that price I would be wanting more. Heres what I have now This. I like the neck though.

I want this bad boy

That was the first 7 string I ever really thought about,but I've also given some thought to an Ibanez RGA7.

I looked up a video for Actives vs Passives. I honestly can't hear a difference. But that'll probably change once I get a chance to play with it in person.

I have 707tw's and I like them :-D

You can't hear a difference?? Actives sound really different to me. I'm not sure exactly how to describe it, though ;-( I've played active and passive basses for years, so when I finally got an active guitar I recognized the "activeness" in it.

Also, make sure you change the battery often enough. Sometimes the battery is still working, but it sounds bad until you change it!
