poker

@musenji  - April 1, 2012, 5 a.m.

I genuinely love the game of poker, so I'm interested in whether others here like it too.

Does anyone here play? To what extent do you play it? I'm interested in:

-types of games you play: hold'em, five card draw, stud, omaha, etc.

-times in your life when you played, and how much you play nowadays

-what kinds of venues: home games, casinos, clubs, online, etc.

As a kid, I played five-card draw with friends for fun. I was introduced to stud in eighth grade. In college I played one night of holdem and one night of strip poker.

It wasn't until I saw a commercial for online poker in 2005 that I started that, and got pretty serious. Now I've played just about everything at least once. I've played in a few casinos, and Elks lodges, and home games. Cash games, tournaments, you name it. Though there are some weird variations I haven't played, I've done most of the normal stuff.

I think gambling is the absolute last thing I need in my life personally.

More power to you though.

Sorry, I should've specified that the thread is not only about playing for money. Games for free count, too. Did you EVER play poker in your life?

Maybe a more interesting question: what does your life need more of, right now? (Things that you can do something about--not circumstantial changes that you would simply wish for.)

I played poker a small handful of times in my life. I've gambled for money once. I lost 10$

I also played this a lot (I couldn't find a better video, there probably is one but I'm lazy.

Not sure how to answer the second question, I'll probably think of something clever to say an hour from now when it's too late though.

Yeah, I guess that is a subject for a whole different thread, probably a thread that would end in "cool story bro"s and gifs. :-)

I realize you were being genuine, I just think the question is a little heavier than the scope of a poker thread. Maybe it'd fit in as it's own thread but even then it was taken seriously it would just be a bunch of people complaining about how their lives aren't ideal. I think even if I could take it seriously it's not something I'd ever post on GT. All I can say is, sometimes the hard part of life isn't finding out what to do to fix things, but actually doing it.

The guitar improvement threads are maybe taken more seriously because there's some ego behind trying to prove that people are experts on guitar. However I'm pretty sure a lot of people are tired of those threads too (judging by the content of the posts).

Also apparently I am King of derailing threads.

Nah, you just were writing your response to my post while I was editing it for the very reasons you mentioned. :-)

(You know this, I'm just letting everyone else know that.)

[edit] And yeah, I hated that the "what are you doing with your life" thread ended in a whinefest with people posting dissertations about what has gone wrong. I've thought about making a new one, with some base rules about 1. how long one's post is allowed to be, and 2. what is to be talked about.

I liked playing poker in Red Dead Redemption. I spent so much time playing it. It was really easy and predictable, though. I guess all AI poker games kind of are. However, I prefer playing poker in Red Dead Redemption more than playing against real people because I can kill everyone if I lose or get bored. My favorite method of murder was to throw a knife at their feet when they ran so they would stumble and fall. Then I would slowly walk up and shoot them in the head. I like to imagine the horror that fills their minds as they realize their winning hand was actually bad luck.

I played pretty seriously for a number of years online and offline (casinos). Had to do it for money but I'm almost out of school and already have work lined up so I just don't have to the time anymore.

The poker landscape also changed quite a bit and it's much harder to make a living now.

Hi all, I am mostly lucky to play at 21 and not long ago I was able to win $150 from $34, now many people prefer to play at online casinos. Yes, it is very convenient and you do not need to go anywhere to make a deposit. Personally, I prefer to play at a minimum deposit casino. There are all kinds of casinos, from slot machines to roulette.

I love gambling. I like poker, roulette, and dice. Recently, I found out that casinos have appeared that accept cryptocurrency. What do you think of it?

I believe this is a huge step forward and different companies should follow the example of crypto casinos. I read that all bitcoin casinos are now is duly licensed and regulated, putting them under strict laws to exercise fair play at all times and offer players a safe experience. For myself, I chose https://duckdice.io. I enjoy playing Bitcoin dice because I don't need any specific knowledge to play this game. I advise you to try it too.
