Damn it, I just made an awesome tab, went to go play some other stuff, had a strange tuning. Started tuning the 3rd string down 2 frets and it freakin broke!!!
I'm unemployed and can't buy new strings!!!!!!!
Why did it break when I was making the string looser!!!!!
fuck

The only string I've ever broken was a high E string that I was tuning down to a D. I was just as confused as you.
That's really rough luck man. They're not too expensive, but every buck matters when you have low-to-no income. :\

Only string I've broken was due to kabukibear's besaid island tab

Such a fun arrangement. I don't play it much because it's the only song I know that uses that tuning.
I think Auri or someone mentioned it's better to just tune down and use a capo though.

Are you calling me out with that 3s Av Rexy? Don't think I won't throw down.

I've only broken a string twice, both times the thinnest one. I always try to keep a few spare packs of strings

The local music store packages their own brand of strings, and they always put in a spare thinnest string :-)
Lately I've been buying the boxes because it's cheaper to buy in bulk. It works out to $3.75/set before tax for these: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ernie-Ball-2223-Nickel-Super-Slinky-Guitar-Strings-Buy-10-Get-2-Free-101771-i1320832.gc
