Dragon Quest I
Overworld Theme(tremolo)
Composed by Koichi Sugiyama
tabbed by musenji, 2010

Inspired by a request for tremolo pieces, I decided to
do my next tab up as a tremolo.

It's a classical technique; you hit every bass note with your
thumb, and the melody notes with your ring, middle, and pointer
fingers, in that order. ..Ridiculously fast, that is.

A primer on the technique and a study for the left hand fingering
follow the tab.

A capo on the 5th fret will give you the original key (Dm), if you
prefer.

Here is one example of what a full-speed tremolo sounds like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUZQhW10K8w

For an idea of what tremolo FEELS like, just finger a C chord
and play without any changes in the left hand. Start SLOWLY
and work the speed up:

|-000-000-000-000-000-000-000-000|--------------------------------|
|--------------------------------|-111-111-111-111-111-111-111-111|
|--------0---------------0-------|--------0---------------0-------|
|----2-------2-------2-------2---|----2-------2-------2-------2---|
|3---------------3---------------|3---------------3---------------|
|--------------------------------|--------------------------------|

Try it with different chords that you know. And remember that it's
more important to be able to do it evenly, than to do it fast. It's
a mix of relaxation and control.

If you need more info, just look up classical guitar tremolo. You
shouldn't have any trouble finding a hundred different people
teaching it for free. :-)

The following study establishes the left hand fingerings. If you
remove the repeat notes in the melody, it makes for a non-tremolo
version of the piece. Just remember to play all of the bass notes
with your thumb.

Hey! i was just thinking, "there should be some tremelo compositions on this site". I like this, but i think i could have been longer. Though i have never actually played this game, it was still fun to play the song.

Thanks! Though it couldn't have been longer unless I added music that wasn't part of the actual song.

I like that it's a tremolo version =)
