This is indicated in the tab, so if you think you have a pretty voice (I know mine's not up to par), just play the the bottom notes on the guitar and sing the melody. If you think you're really fancy, you can bust out your pan flute for the second theme, the vocals join in on the melody when it repeats (noted by 'Option Voice' mark). Wouldn't ending with a G chord be better then just open strings?

That might sound good too being in the key of G major, but this is closer to the original song. Actually in the original the first E note is an octave higher:
