Wait, why do you fret the bass note with your thumb? Do you mean to pluck it with the thumb?

Fret it, Jimi Hendrix style, because if you barre across, then the notes on the A string will sound.

This is just for the chords besides G btw. Just play that normally.

I should say that when you fret with the thumb, it slightly rests on the A string and mutes it.
