Official Thread for Licensed & Public Domain Music Game Tabs

This thread will be used to collect licensed songs and public domain songs that are not considered game music. The purpose of the site is to share songs made for video games; anything that was not made for a game unfortunately is not in the spirit of video game music (Anime being an exception).

Definitions:

Licensed - Production music, stock music, and library music falls under this category. This includes songs that are created by production music companies such as APM Music. It also includes songs that would be found in real life radio that may be used for an in-game radio or other scenario.

Public Domain - Songs with expired intellectual property rights. This includes classical music, folk songs, and classic holiday songs.

Rules:

  • Post only licensed / public domain music used in a game or trailer that was not originally composed for the game soundtrack.
  • Write the subject as: Song Title - Game Title
  • If you have a file such as guitarpro, powertab, or pdf please also post a text version of the tab in the forum. Use your File Browser to upload a text (.txt) file. Check the submissions guidelines if you need help uploading a file.
  • Try to include an audio example to go with your tab; upload a file or use a youtube link.
  • NO Guitar Hero / Rock Band / Rhythm Game tabs please! There are other guitar tab sites for these kind of songs. Rhythm games with original music (Gitaroo Man, Rhythm Heaven) should be posted to the main site using the submission forum.
  • In-game radio songs such as those found in Grand Theft Auto are also discouraged. I will allow in-game radio for music created by production music composers, as these are not likely to have tabs on other websites the way popular radio music would.
  • Arrangements of public domain songs such as Will the Circle Be Unbroken? can be posted to the main site if the arranged version for the game is substantially different from the original song. However, if the original version of the song was used for the game, it should be posted here in this thread.
  • Tetris will be an exception for public domain. The classical songs used do not differ much from their original versions, but are so closely associated with the game and have become a part of game music history; those songs can be posted to the main site.

Since these tabs will not be posted to the main site, a moderator does not have to check for accuracy. You don't need to post on the submissions forum, just post it directly here yourself.

Green Despair - Cabal Online

I originally posted this tab on the site after someone requested it. But I didn't know it was not made for the game. After some research I found that the game Cabal Online features many songs by the band Novasonic. The song Green Despair is named "Lady" on one of their albums, but this instrumental version was used in the game.

This was another tab done for a request. I didn't know the song was made by a band and not part of an original soundtrack.

Can we get upload support for .tab data though ? It's what Guitar Pro is converting the tabs into, basically the same as .txt files.

When I made the licensed / film / vocaloid threads the intention was for songs actually used in a game. Would people prefer to just make them a catch all for any non-game tabs?

I'll ask Ash about allowing .tab files.

I think it's alright to have them as a regular tab on the website as long as they are part of the game/anime. Thing with vocaloid is there are hundreds of songs that have nothing to do with games, same goes for touhou arrangements.

By the way your GT 5 tab isn't working.

I asked here what people thought about posting these on the main site and they didn't want songs that were not made for the game / anime.

Rumor - The Witch's House (Majo no Ie)

So i have a tab (here) for a song i heard in a game called The Witch's House, but it turns out it comes from this site (here). Does it belong here? If it does would someone who heard the song in-game and wanted to find a tab even be able to find it here?

Just tried searching for a tab of that Rumor song and this thread shows up in the results (tried it earlier with no results, but it took about 2 weeks for google to recognize it). I think people should be able to find it. Just be sure to include the song and game title for the search to work, I edited your comment to include the song name.

Ennea, this is a great tab (even if a bit difficult)!! I think "Comptine d'Un Autre Été" by Yann Tiersen is from a movie called "AMELIE POULAIN"

I have a question. Does Obstacles by Syd Matters from the soundtrack of Life Is Strange count as licensed music or can I post a tab or arrangement of it on the main site?

The thing with it is that aside from other licensed tracks, the soundtrack of Life Is Strange is composed by Jonathan Morali, frontman of Syd Matters, so the song is composer's own earlier composition and therefore it probably wasn't licensed. The song is used as background music in the final scene of the first episode and not, for example, in an in-game radio.

Well that's a strange example. But since that song was not written for the game, it probably shouldn't be posted on the main site. The score for the game, like the main menu theme can be posted.
