Never played Soul Blazer but I LOVE Dark Cloud 2. I don't mind a game being a rip-off as long as it's good.

Soul Blazer is great. If you like games that are great, give it a try.

Yeah, I watched it on youtube for a couple of minutes, it reminded me of Sega's Soleil. I think I'm gonna give it shot. And Jacob, I really recommend DC2. It has a whole world of it's own. You can power up your weapons (with a non-linear system btw), you can build villages, take pics and make inventions with them, go fishing, play golf etc etc. And the best thing is, the game really motivates you to do all that stuff by giving you cool and rare prizes. I'm even gonna do a risky remark again and claim that it actually may be deeper than Final Fantasy. Cuz you won't spend the last 30 hours of the game just for powering up, but rather on all those variously designed side-quests. May be my all time favorite rpg.

Sounds pretty cool. I might try it. What system is it for?

In my opinion pokemon and the final fantasys are quite different. Pokemon for instance is a lot deeper, you forge more intricate relationships with the pokemon that you train, as well as more emotion towards the villains like gary oak. Furthermore the storyline in pokemon has far more depth to it than final fantasy games - the overlying theme being about growing as a person, with your pokemon abilities being a metaphor for this. Furthermore it tackles in a mature way how we need to rely on the help of our friends to overcome great hurdles, and to not get bogged down in the darker side of life (team rocket being an allegory for this). Really I could continue on about the many hidden themes in the game (all of which can apply to your own life), but that would spoil the enjoyment for finding them yourself. I will say this: the deeper you look, the more you will get out. In this way pokemon is aimed at a much older and maturer audience than the final fantasy series.
However, I would not say that pokemon is the superior game. If you value special effects, graphics and a more "light-hearted" and "family friendly" story then final fantasy will probably serve you better. The combat system is also easier to pick up for a beginner, with no "grinding" having to catch pokemon - in essence you ARE the pokemon, it's quite a silly but fun concept. Final fantasy also does a good job of keeping those people with low-attention-spans entertained by including novelty gimmicks like giant swords, "magic", and tough guys with crazy hair-dos.
In conclusion they are both fantastic series, but I would say that final fantasy caters more towards the younger beginner gamer who struggles with basic concepts, while pokemon is a more story-driven, character focused game catered towards a mature audience who are prepared to invest more energy to get more out. I don't think one is a rip off of the other - as Arteriorrhexis will agree (along with everything I just wrote).

That butterfly looks like a bizarre metamorphosis failure. Half-caterpillar, half-butterfly! The little girl dinosaur does crack. Lots and lots of crack. Barney, as always, is the stuff of nightmares. Also, someone shrunk that house, and whoever lived there can't get in the door anymore and is probably homeless.
Yeegh!

Barney's such a peadophille. He's tied a little girl to a tree, and locked another in his garden/evil torture chamber.
That little boy is next. Noooooooo! D:

Lol, looks like I really said something epic back there. :D But you know, last time I played Pokemon was like 10 years ago. And when I started to play the old-school FFs one year ago my first impression was "omg, it's the same as pokemon". But since there's a 10 year gap between my playing of those 2 games (and since Arteriorrhexis is totally against my statement :) I may be wiling to take that one back once I try to replay Pokemon. :P
You fucking best.
