NextGen gaming rumors?

@Giogiogio4  - April 17, 2012, 4:16 a.m.

So what are your thoughts on all the rumors of nextgen gaming having Bans on used games, No backwards compatibility and so forth?

I don't understand the whole Ban against used games. It's a BS argument in my book. Devs are paid plenty. Most people are being mislead in general when it comes to that topic.

Whats a used game? When a gamer trades in 2 old games for a new one the Gamer is Taking a Loan from the game store ( gamestop ). And guess what? It's Gamestop paying Devs for their new games. And when someone Buys a used game they are simply paying gamestop back. And well over 50% of the time none of those used games sell. So gamestop loses money. Look at all the old Ps2,Gamecube games those places have. Thousands of games that wont ever be sold, yet they gave all those gamers the money to buy new games. If anything Gamestop is basically giving Devs cash in hopes someone will pay them back.

I don't like the idea that backwards compatibility is going to go away. ;_;

I see it like so; Gamestop bought said game for certain price. This game was sold for that, plus the amount of money to make a profit. They buy back this game for about small fraction of what you paid; certainly less than what they paid for it. Now, if you have video games to sell, its reasonable to speculate you've probably played said games. Further speculation would dictate you're not getting rid of them for the money, most of the time, but because you're bored with them. So, in search of new entertainment, you may purchase newer games, at higher prices, with the money you've received to compliment what you have left in your wallet. @.@

I don't think you answered your own question: "What's a used game?"

A used game is a game that has been used. I'm pretty sure that's not what you're trying to communicate, and you didn't explain how any of what you said qualifies as "a ban on used games".

I seriously don't understand what is being explained in the OP. Maybe I'm just really tired. Can someone spell it out for me, clearly?

PS this is not a sassy post, this is a confused post.

If you were up to date you would know that Devs and next gen are looking into ways to ban used games, and remove backwards play ability. They accuse places like gamestop for them "losing money" on every game sold. They basically say Gamestop makes money on a game being used and sold multiple times and devs not getting a cut.

So as gamers, the games we buy will link to our account, Or be digital entirely. Can't be traded or sold and maybe not even borrowed. Some consoles are looking into new media ( xbox ) and won't even be able to play this gen games.PS3 might change it's programming structure to match whats out, rendering Ps3 games unusable on Ps4 and so forth.

I stated that Used games don't hurt Devs because A used game being traded in is nothing more then a Loan towards a new game. So Gamestop is paying devs for new games.Gamers that buy used games are doing nothing more then Paying off someone elses loan.

  • Gamer trades in game. Go towards new game. ( money for new game comes from store ).

  • Gamer buys used game ( money goes to store to pay back other gamers loan )

  • Gamer trades in newer game and gets 2 older games.

( 2 smaller loans are replaced with a bigger 1 )

_ Even when gamestop buys a game and put's it on the shelf theres no promise that anyone will buy it. The Value also goes down. So they gave a gamer 30 bucks for a game that's now worth 10 bucks. thats 20 dollar lost.

When it comes down to it The devs are basically taking money From gamestop with no promise they will even get 50% of that back. Look at the 1000s of PS2 titles that are 4 bucks at the store. At one time they gave gamers 30 bucks for those in store credit.

I just thought I'd stop in to say "fuck GameStop." I don't care about the whole banning used games thing too much at this point. I just think everybody should stop buying anything from GameStop. They're a bunch of assholes that sell opened games as new, pester you to sign up for their shitty ass power up card and to pre-order every game coming out on the systems you own, and they're really hostile if you try to return anything, even if it's unopened.

It's way cheaper to just order games on sites like Amazon and newegg; they don't charge tax, usually have free shipping (with orders over $25), and they often have additional discounts for seemingly no reason. Also, you can save a ton of money if you just wait a few months after a game comes out to buy it. Just wait 3-6 months and most $60 games become $20. I can understand that there are certain games that you just can't wait for, and it's fine to get those right away, but by being a little patient and ordering your games online, you can save a ton of money without dealing with all the bullshit of GameStop. Or you could always buy games at Wal-Mart or stores like that, but online is almost always cheaper.

As for actual next gen stuff, all I really care about right now is how much the WiiU is going to cost, and what games will be coming out for it (Dragon Quest X WiiU version!).

I sell stuff on amazon and they take like 10 bucks + out of your sell if its like 50 bucks. I also returned a game I opened and beat to gamestop a week later ( rocksmith ) with no issues.

Plus this has nothing to do with them. This is the industry taking it too far. We wont be able to buy games used, or sell them anymore. or borrow them. We already dont even get full games anymore because of the DLC BullSh*t constantly. Soon we will have to buy a game, Buy the online part and then buy other content all ready on this disk.

What happens when you want to play a ps3 game in 15 years? The systems dont last as it is this gen. And if everything is true about next gen. There wont be any used games! So PS4 games won't be sold new when say ps6 is out, And guess what? you can't buy them new then and used will be banned.

basically put if they did this back then all our Ps1 games and stuff from those eras would be useless.

Useless? I still own a ps1 and ps2 (SNES, Atari 2600 and original XBOX as well. Not to be boastful hehe) and I think I play SNES and PS1 games more then I play my XBOX 360.

But there is a secret to giving your friends the games you purchased on XBOX live dashboard. If you trust your friend with having your gamertag on their XBOX 360 that is.

Well, for those who didn't know, all you have to do is migrate your gamertag to their console and re-download the games you want to his/her console and presto! they can play those games with their gamertag as well. This works for DLC as well, like Nazi Zombies and such.

EDIT: I did this for my brother's girlfriend and my gamertag is on my console and her's.

She's cool and rarely plays anyway, so I don't have to worry about her signing in my name haha

I wasn't talking about selling stuff on Amazon or anything; I'm just saying that buying from GameStop is bad since they're a bunch of assholes and you can get games way cheaper online. Did they really let you return an opened game for a full refund? Or did you trade it in, which gets you considerably less? If they actually let you return the game opened as a new game for full price, then that person must've either been your friend or not given a shit about their store policy (which would be nice). Anyway, GameStop's a bunch of fucking assholes.

I totally agree about the DLC thing. I hate it. I'm really wary of buying any new games for my PS3 because of this. For example, instead of buying RE5 new for $60, I got the Gold Edition that includes all the DLC for $22 off Amazon a few years later. I won't even buy Casltevania: Lord of Shadow because of DLC. I want to play the game, but not until they release a version with all the downloadable crap included. If they never do, maybe I'll buy it when it's like $10 or $15.

Lmao did you even read my comment. If they block used games now in 15 years PS3/4 games will be useless. The PS3 wont last that long and PS4 games will be unplayable used, So they wont be sold anywhere. Going into that same logic if applied to PS1 games we wouldnt be able to play them today when those games were still some of the best.

Haha. Your comment actually gave me a good laugh, Jacob. My Playstation 1 broke on me many years ago, so it's funny because it's true to me. All the other systems I've ever owned are in tact and work just fine, but the Playstation 1 was a cheaply made piece of crap. At least my PS2 and PS3 can still play PS1 games.

As for the whole not being able to lend/borrow games from people, I think that's horrible. If the console makers do that, people should really just not by their consoles. That's the power consumers have over the game companies (whether or not we give them our money).

Lol exactly. I was saying that if the PS4 and Nextbox 720 remove the ability to play Current PS3/360 games and Ban any use games how do we play them in 15 years? Can't buy PS4 games new when the ps7 is out. And you can't play them used. And all the PS3's and 360s will be broken because they have horrible shelve lives. My Ps2 still works though, Got that day 1.

Apply their logic to the Ps1 generation. Cant buy ps1 games new in the box, So most buy them used. But used games would be banned. making all the PS1 games useless unless you "rebuy" them all digitally.
