Your favorite video game boss?

@gamingnguitar  - June 1, 2008, 4:39 p.m.

Alright, I know we all love bosses. I mean, come on, there big, ugly, nasty, and intent on spilling your guts all over the battleground. What's not to like? Now, I wanna know, what is your favorite boss of all time? Mine is definitely Sword Dancer III from Tales of Symphonia (my favorite game). Try it on Mania mode solo with Lloyd or Kratos. Any console, any game, whatever, just your fav.

hahaha that was a hilarious battle. I walk in and there's this enormous bowser taking a bath. Whoops. wrong door.

Well, it was one of the weirdest in Mario history, I can tell you that. Think back to the old Super Mario Bros. where this was actually half-serious, and next thing ya know you gotta battle him in the tub. Freaky.

I always loved Bowser in any Mario game, but specifically in the original Paper Mario. That was a sweet battle. Going up all the steps to get to the boss...that's so classic. Or in Super Mario 64. I hated that when I was little. The colors and the atmosphere was awesome though.

I also really loved Ganon in LoZ:OoT, and Bongo-Bongo. Ganon was just big and mean and scary looking. I mean, that was so epic. The music, the tail, the darkness...all of it. And it had the "climbing the staircase to your doom" kind of thing like I was saying before. And Bongo-Bongo just really gnawed at me, because he kept throwing me to the side. But I loved when he came down and beat on the ground.

For me, it's up in the air between U3 from Resident Evil 4 and Stallord from LoZ: Twilight Princess. Scratch that, ANY boss from Twilight Princess.

For my fav video game boss, there is no questioning. It is defiantly Donkey Kong in the original Donkey Kong arcade game.

I see so many people picking some of the most cliche names in all of video game history (though Sephiroth is mysteriously missing in this list), like Kefka, Bowser, Ganon, etc...but doesn't anyone remember Ghaleon from Lunar: The Silver Star? One of the most composed villians ever, and his laugh sent shivers down your spine. He tortured dragons, stole girlfriends, and just when you thought he was dead, he comes back in Lunar 2!

Then I'm gonna go even older and say that the bosses from Thunder Force IV were amazing. They provided hours of challenging battle, and the DarkStar at the end became damn near impossible on Very Hard mode. Plus, they all looked wicked epic.

Ah, fuck. I forgot the one boss even better than the ones I posted earlier. Jon Irenicus from Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. If you've played that gem, you know exactly how evil he is.

heh heh, I was just going through some old games the other day and I came across Pikmin 2. Did anyone ever face the man-at-legs? Basically, it was a machine/spider that shot at you with a machine gun cannon thing. A lot of fun to fight =)

Oh come on! :D Just because they're well known games doesn't make the bosses cliche. There are a lot of good bosses out there, but the most epic ones from the best games are the ones that stick out in people's minds.

Not that I blame you for sticking up for the underdog bosses. ^ ~

Tomator, the boss of The Lost Vikings. What I loved about it was that it wasn't just hitting him a bunch of times repeatedly, it was a puzzle, and it used the whole level and all of your characters and a bunch of triggers and switches. I still remember the password you had to enter to get to the boss level. Plus he had a really funny expression when you hit him.
