I still fail to see the "aggressiveness" in any of those songs. if anything they are dramatic. They set a larger mood, something closer to what a movie score does. They Tell a story. something mainstream music fails to do faaar too often. mainstream is just random BS that any loser can relate to. lame GF issues, Partying and having run, and dumb nonsense like that.

Yeah Gio I'll admit those lyrics are pretty awesome. Metal artists definately put more work into their lyrics than popular musicians.

After this post I'm going to quit derailing the thread, but the lyrical quality of Starchild is quite rare in metal, and I've even heard some people argue that on the whole metal isn't a genre that you should pay attention to the lyrics in. if she wants some less aggressive stuff, with nice clean vocals, then ya really cant go wrong with staind (open your eyes particularly--from the break the cycle album): they have some super heavy riffs, but we all know aaron lewis does virtually NO screaming in his stuff, a couple songs being exceptions.

breaking benjamin is another good band with excellent clean vocals and heavy riffs; i refer you to the song the diary of jane (the acoustic version of this song is also very well done).

A Rose For Epona ~ Eluveitie the most beautiful melodic death metal/pagan metal song ive ever heard, truly; anna's voice is amazing in this, and you can really see how they have matured as a band

also check out the band unsun if youre into female vocalists; she has the cutest accent when she sings, gorgeous woman too, really, quite the vixen. also, lacuna coil, but only from the first two or three albums, it all became bullshit after that--karmacode is particularly well done

Look at the whole album. The album was mixed entirely by him. He isn't that famous so it's not like it's an Entire studio doing his album with paid Orchestra to help out. he solos extremely melodic and classical, so there's no room for random pentatonic jerking in his work. All his songs easily trade over to Instrumental work easily. He plays all his work live nearly flawless. it's been nearly 10 years in working on the new album, long epic songs. it's a mix in Epic/folk/ melodic death metal. He mixes A LOT of orch stuff in his music. Some of the new album has like 200 layers worth of tracks.

Screaming just depends on the band. if it's the high emo screamo voice then they are posers. Because they are not doing the vocal tech correctly. Your suppose to loosen your vocal chords, not strain them! Doing this allows allot of Metal bands to play more guitars because the singer isn't the focus.What happens when the singers sing normally? Then they have to sing the Melody and that takes over the song, pushing the rest to the back.

Also i should have added. When the Singer is singing normally and the guitars are playing melody lines /Lead stuff within the same range we get something called "Voice crossing". My teacher always told me that it's bad.

Well, I think it's worth saying that there's plenty of heavy/power/prog metal with melodic vocals that kicks ass and has fairly dynamic instrumentation (prog or prog influenced stuff especially), but with harsh vocals you get music like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvO-jzjhTvQ. Let me try to address everything here.

First of all,it's not so much that I'm trying to "Convert" her,she already kinda likes some metal,like Kamelot, >Auri. :P and a couple of my Amon Amarth songs,but she's so unfamiliar with it that she has a hard time getting herself into it,I kinda have to find bands she might like and introducing her to them,99 times out of 100 she doesn't quite like them,but I got lucky with Powerwolf and thought I'd see if there was anything like it I could get her into.

No SJ,I'm not breaking off a 5 year relationship because of musical differences. xD

Jacob,I like instrumentals,but she likes to sing. :o

WayFaerer,I'll definitely have to check those out when my internet works correctly,but I'd forgotten all about Staind,that seems like something she'd really like,I'll have to test that out.

Bhael,my friend,to be completely honest,I've only read snippets of each of your posts,but I've gathered that you really don't quite understand metal,just as Auri says. The same way I probably won't understand your fascination with classical.

also, @gio, agreed %100 on slania being their best album; spirit a close second followed by ERAINW; arcane dominion was really good too, some really nice melodies in it; omnos, carnutian forest, ne rgv na.

i got sick of everything remains really quickly though; quoth the raven is bloody amazing, theres one point in that song that will ALWAYS give me chills, im sure you know what im talkin about gio.

i wouldnt say calling the rain is better than rose for epona, but thats just my taste you know? but have you heard of the band blood stain child? check out the song metropolice and take heed of the intro melody; identical to the main melody for a rose for epona.

one of my favorite songs from eluveitie is elembivos, the with the chanting, and a truly delicious solo in it. the title track on slania, slania's song, is utterly gorgeous, an fully showcases the many talents of each member in the band (like 9 of em?).

have you ever listened to omnium gatherum gio? check out son's thoughts, from spirits and august light; awesome finnish melodeth band. think in flames meets insomnium with a very slight dash of oldschool CoB riffage. really awesome stuff, highly recommended
